Razorbacks’ Caldwell no-hits Gore

By Tom Firme Sports Editor

Panama (8-3), which is ranked 10th in 2A, won 3-0 at Gore on Tuesday with Caldwell pitching a no-hitter, striking out 18 of the 21 batters he faced.

“It felt good to get out there and throw a no-hitter,” said Caldwell, who threw a no-hitter against Crowder last year while he was at Red Oak. “It felt great doing it while playing for a new team.”

A particular off-speed pitch helped him shut batters down.

“My slider was working really well. I feel like I got more strikeout pitches with that than with my fastball.”

Caldwell threw 66 of his 92 pitches (71.7 percent) as strikes. He said that helped him set up his slider.

Caldwell, John Imbush and Tyler Simkins each had two hits and an RBI.

Panama head coach Chris Gollihare called it a good win. Gore (8-3) had three wins with at least nine runs against winning teams going into the game.
