It was the talk Monday night around Poteau that Sallisaw was pitching its ace against the Pirates in Game 2 of the district home-and-home Tuesday afternoon in Sallisaw.

However, the Sallisaw ace, was trumped royally by Poteau’s Aiden Sockey, who allowed only three seeing-eye hits, but the statistic that sticks out is that of the 23 batters that Sockey faced, he struck out 14.

Poteau won the back end of the twinbill by the score of 4-1.

Sockey struck out five of the first six batters he faced.

Poteau scored the first run of the game in the second inning. Logan Walker singled and then pulled off the third successful delay steal of the series. Walker scored on a single by Dax Collins for a 1-0 lead.

Poteau again scored in the third inning as Colby Bell legged out and infield single, but in the process he re-strain an old injury in his leg. Hudson Burdick pinch ran and scored on a hit by Sockey and a throwing error on that single to up Poteau’s lead to 2-0.

Sallisaw scored its first run on a single, a stolen base and a ground out to cut its deficit to 2-1.

Poteau scored its final two runs as Sallisaw committed back-to-back miscues. Wesley Garrett and Holden Mattox each scored for a 4-1 advantage.

Sockey finished the game the same way he started it, on a swinging third strike.

Poteau’s victory gave the Pirates the two-game sweep of Sallisaw.

Poteau will entertain the Panama Razorbacks this afternoon at Town Creek Park.

Poteau rode the strong right arm of Colby Bell and the timely hitting of their offense to post the win over the Sallisaw Black Diamonds by the score of 7-5 Monday afternoon at Town Creek Park.

Bell pitched the entire seven innings with 10 strikeouts.

“My curve ball was my best pitch of the game, and my defense play great today,” Bell said when asked what he thought of his first Sallisaw game.

Offensively, Jagger Dodson was consistently reaching base as he reach base on four occasions. He had three hits and reached on an error by the second baseman.

However, a major offensive surge took place in the sixth inning. With the Pirates leading 4-3, they put a crooked number on the board. The final two runs of the inning for the Pirates came on a massive home run by Calloway Warren who launched the ball onto the softball parking lot for a 7-3 lead going into the seventh inning.

Sallisaw made a run in the seventh as they got two bases on ball and scored on a double, but the rally ended there.
