By Tom Firme Sports Editor

Poteau continued to fight hard in district play earlier this week.

The girls in red and white swept a doubleheader at Idabel on Monday.

First, Poteau (5-2, 3-1 District 4A-8) won 5-4 in eight innings as Parker Patterson drove in Emma Hackler with a double for the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth.

Kennedy Cox hit a runscoring single in the sixth to put Poteau ahead, and Ava Hamilton followed with a two-run single to give Poteau a 5-2 lead.

Cox went 2-for-4 with a run batted in.

Hackler threw 13 strikeouts in the full eight innings while landing twothirds of her 135 pitches as strikes.

Poteau pounded Idabel 19-3 in the second game, running away with a 13run fourth inning.

Gracyn Soehlman hit a three run triple in the fourth and finished with four RBIs. Patterson started the fourth-inning breakout with a run-scoring triple.

Cox went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Patterson had three RBIs. Hackler went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Briley Bowman was 2-for2 with a walk two RBis.

Poteau rallied late at home on Tuesday, but

Broken Bow answered and handed the girls in red and white their first district loss 12-9 in eight innings.

“We did some things to score some runs. We won several innings in a row right there,” Poteau head coach Ryan Dill said. “Give Broken Bow credit. They made some really good defensive plays. We had some that we should have made that we didn’t make. There were some plays that we didn’t make, so that could be your difference sometimes. We had too many strikeouts, but we hit some balls hard. We’re going in the right direction.”

Poteau had a three-run sixth for an 8-6 lead, taking the lead when Patterson scored as Broken Bow’s catcher dropped the ball on a fielder’s choice.

Broken tied it in the top of the seventh and sent a three-run home run over the left-field wall in the eighth.

Kennedy Cox went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Patterson was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.

Hackler went 1-for2 with three walks and threw 14 stirkeouts in 7.1 innings.

At the Kellyville Festival, Poteau plays Tulsa Memorial at 6:30 p.m. and Beggs at 9:30 p.m. on Friday and Welch at 10 a.m. and Verdigris at 1 p.m. on *Saturday.
