Howe wins two, Wister wins one in triad at Howe

Howe earned a pair of wins at home in a triad while hosting a pair of purple and yellow-clad opponents on Monday.

First, Howe won its first District 2A-6 game 11-1 against Sallisaw Central.

Kadynce Delt earned the pitching win while going 3-for-3 with two runs batted in at the plate.

To finish the night, Howe beat Wister 4-1 with home runs by Delt and Gracie Lute.

Delt led off the bottom of the second inning by blasting the ball over the left-centerfield wall. Later that inning, Joz Johnson singled and scored on a groundout by Preslee Jackson.

Lute led off the bottom of the third with home run over the right-field wall. With two outs, Delt drove in Abby Huie withi a single. In the fifth, Mia McGowen singled in Josey Peterson for Wister’s lone run.

Huie turned a double play to end the top of the sixth inning.

Wister’s Maggie Wilson struck out the Howe side in the bottom half of the inning, but Wister was only able to manage one hit in the seventh.

Wister outhit Howe 8-5, but only put one other runner in scoring position.

Wilson threw 11 strikeouts in six innings while landing 85 of her 118 pitches (72 percent) as strikes.

For Howe, Kaelbi Duvall landed 55 of her 79 pitches (70 percent) as strikes while going the full seven innings. Delt and Lute both went 2-for-3. Wister’s Kinley Branscum went 3-for-4. Jordan Makovy was 2-for-3.

In between those games, Wister (2-6) beat Sallisaw Central 5-1 as Kaylea Underwood threw a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts.

Wilson hit two home runs, one to lead off the fifth inning and a shot over the left-field wall with two outs in the sixth.

Hattie Pate put Wister ahead 2-1 with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fourth and scored on a triple by Kinzie Duncan.

Howe lost 2-1 to District 2A-6 foe Oktaha at home on Tuesday.

Oktaha scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Huie scored Lute on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning.

Both teams had four hits. Delt also allowed three walks in the full seven innings. Huie had a hit and a walk. Lute, Delt and Jazz Harrison also collected hits.

Branscum had both of Wister’s hits in an 8-0 loss at Caddo on Tuesday.
