OKLAHOMA CITY — Remington Park opens its annual Thoroughbred Season on Friday, starting a campaign that includes 67 race dates and features like Oklahoma Derby Week, Oklahoma Classics, and craft beer and wine tasting festivals.

The first night of Thoroughbred racing takes place Friday with a post time of 7 p.m.

The feature will be the $175,000 Governor’s Cup, the initial stakes race of the season. Major racing events on the calendar include the Oklahoma Derby on Sept. 25, the Oklahoma Classics card on Oct. 21 and the Springboard Mile on Dec. 17.

The $400,000 Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby on Sept. 25 attracts the top Thoroughbreds from around the country with purses total more than $1 million.

“Thoroughbred Season attracts the sport’s top human and equine athletes to Oklahoma City and that creates an unrivaled competition that gives our visitors an unforgettable experience each time they visit Remington Park,” said Matt Vance, Remington Park’s executive vice president of racing. “We anticipate the competition and winning action for patrons to be as hot as the current Oklahoma summer on Opening Weekend and beyond.”
