Whitesboro eludes LeFlore in final minutes

The Panama Razorbacks and the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs advanced to the championship semifinals of the 91st LeFlore County Tournament with quarterfinal victories Tuesday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium at Talihina High School.

After falling behind in the first quarter, the Razorbacks used 3-point baskets to pull away from the LeFlore Savages for an 81-47 victory.

The Lady Bulldogs got a stiff test from the Lady Savages before Whitesboro got past LeFlore 5247.

On the consolation side, the Cameron Yellowjackets rallied from an opening-period deficit to win going away 66-34 over Bokoshe to eliminate the Tigers from the LCT. Championship quarterfinals

Boys Panama 81, LeFlore 47

The Savages (8-8), who trailed 8-3 in the early stages of the opening period, knotted the game three times, at 11-all, 15-all and 17-all.

A basket by LeFlore’s Westin Durant broke the 17-all tie for a 19-17 lead for the Savages with 30 seconds left in quarter.

However, Panama’s Logan Davis hit a 3-point basket at the buzzer to give the Hogs a 20-19 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Razorbacks (9-3) never relinquished the lead, outscoring the Savages 19-8 in the second period for a 39-27 halftime advantage and a 3312 third quarter upped the lead to 72-39 entering the final period.

For the game, Jagger Phillips led all scorers with a game-high 33 points to lead the Hogs, followed by Bryce Tackett with 16 points, Davis with 13 points, Leslye Warren with seven points, Dylan Williams with five points, Kicks Nixon with three points and Tyler Simkins with two points.

In defeat, Bo Dacus led the Savages with 15 points, followed by Durant, Kalobe Hudlow and Chase Lloyd with eight points each, Dawson Crims with six points and Luke Herrell with two points.

Girls Whitesboro 52, LeFlore 47

LeFlore’s Piper Warren hit a game-tying 3-point basket with 5:19 left in the game to knot the contest at 40-all.

However, from there, the Lady Bulldogs (12-3) outscored the Lady Savages 12-7 to get the win.

After falling behind 14-9 after a period, LeFlore (11-5) cut its deficit to a single point on six occasions, including the halftime score — which saw Whitesboro ahead 27-26.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 36-34 lead into the final period.

Despite getting three fouls in the opening quarter, Whitesboro’s Austyn Wright scored a gamehigh 20 points to lead Whitesboro, followed by Kinley Barron with 12 points, Addyson Wright with nine points, Darah Cole and Madison Grogan with five points each and Linley Collins with a free throw.

In defeat, Jenna Woodall scored 14 points and Kaylen Hudlow added 10 points to lead LeFlore, followed by Alyssa Waits with seven points, Emma Luman with six points and Warren and Lori Cogburn with four points apiece.

Consolation Bracket Boys Cameron 66, Bokoshe 34

The Tigers led 9-4 after a quarter, but the Yellowjackets (4-10) stung them with a 15-3 run to end the period to take a 19-12 lead. Slowly and surely, the ’Jackets pulled away from there, leading 39-24 at halftime and 56-30 after three quarters.

For the game, Dale Beshears scored a gamehigh 23 points to lead Cameron, followed by Joseph Adams with 13 points, Mason Francis, Gavin Morgan and Brextan Castillo with eight points, Jett Hetherington with four points and Zane Thompson with two points.

In defeat, Jon Goodman scored 13 points to lead Bokoshe, followed by Austin Treat and Scooter Hastings each with six points and Garth Kasiner and Eli Fraser with two points apiece.
